Dan Jones and Mitch Jervis met during a production of the musical,
Always...Patsy Cline, in Denver, Colorado.  During rehearsals and warm-ups, Dan would "fool around" with jazz and swing tunes as the rest of the pit band jammed along.  Mitch eventually suggested that they put a combo together to feature that repertoire, and Standard Deviations was born.  Their melodic interplay is the heart of the Standard Deviations sound.

In "real life," Dan teaches musicology courses for the Honors Program at the University of Colorado Boulder.  Mitch is a freelance writer and "para-professional" musician who plays for musical theater shows and with his blues/rock band, Captain Quirk & The Cosmic Rangers.

Larry Ziehl - Drums
Austin Hein - Bass

Larry and Austin are also active in the Denver musical theater community.  Both have incredible ears and a natural feel for the jazz, swing and funky grooves of the Standard Deviations set list.

Outside theater productions, Larry teaches drums out of his home rehearsal space.  Austin builds architectural models for a living, and also built a couple of the basses he uses with Standard Deviations.
