Carrying On The Tradition of Steel Guitar Jazz & Swing

The steel guitar has a long tradition in jazz and swing music.  From the big bands of the '40s to Western Swing in the '50s and the hard-to-find instrumental works of Nashville's jazz masters during the '60s, the soaring sound of the steel guitar has lent itself well to the complex harmonies and intricate melodies of jazz and American popular standards.

Today, Daniel Jones carries that torch with Standard Deviations.  Along with guitarist Mitch Jervis, bassist Austin Hein and drummer Larry Ziehl, Dan's pedal steel expertise puts a surprising twist on familiar swing, pop and rock tunes, jazz standards, and a growing library of original numbers.

Standard Deviations' music is highly listenable: melodic, harmonically rich, thoughtfully arranged, tastefully played.  The combo is at home providing background music for private parties, playing clubs, giving concerts and even helping dancers kick up their heels.  Standard Deviations is available to give your event a refreshing musical flavor.  For booking information, please contact us.
